I wish I had a BB sitting in my house,I had a chance once because my cousins mom had a 70 something thunderbird rotting in there back yard and finally had it towed but I was a lot younger and building imports at the time.

If you Do a big block build make sure you spend the money to buy new aftermarket head studs and bolt. Dont use the factory stuff

5th go around on OEM head bolts. I bought ARPs twice but at $185 a set I questioned using the OEMs. Guys on 460 Ford all said reuse em. if you are under 11:1. compresseion.
In fact I made a joke that I wasn't building a nitro motor and some guy said he as a 13.5:1 mill and reused them as well with 20 passes on them.
My neighbor on the other hand had one stretch on his 545 during reassembly so its not a golden rule. The factory stuff is pretty stout.

I won't even say I'm an expert but I have been learning from them for about 5 years and I have had some real bad failures building my engine. I really learned a lot from wrecking stuff

Now toss in a supercharger and it's a different story......
They don't turn? You're nuts. Why can't they turn any RPM? You need to do some more research as to why they did not put them in the Boss Mustangs. It has nothing to do with RPM capability. Are you also saying a 572 can't turn any RPM? Fact - you can make more power at a lower RPM than with a smaller cubic inch engine. Myth - they can not spin any RPM. If you destroked a 460 to a 429 the only thing you are doing is spending money to make less horsepower which in most cases would be at least 40 horsepower.

The weak link is the heads, they need porting on the exhaust side.
Good news is all of them are good except 1972.
If you destroke a 460 you'd be giving up free horsepower and torque.

Where ever it stops making power. The size of the engine does not determine how high it can/will/should rev. The combination of parts does.

Even if it was a fact (which its not) that a 460 couldn't turn more than say 6000 rpm, think about this logically. Assuming 1.2 horsepower per cubic inch (which is a really mild build) what would be faster a 408 with 490 horsepower at 7000 rpm or a 460 with 552 horsepower at 6000 rpm?

You are talking about two different engines and I never said 6500. 351Ws with 3" mains build alot of heat around the 7400 area and like to spit rod bearings out. My last 2 engines didn't have this problem but "they" tell me I'm lucky. This is a known issue and if this is the first you've heard of it then you must be new to 351Ws.

I don't believe everything people tell me, otherwise I'd believe that 347s burn oil, you can only run 10:1 compression on pump gas with aluminum heads, you need forged pistons and crank in a stock block, and (this one is my favorite) 8.8 axle tubes come welded from the factory...
