Strange idle
I thought this looked like the right place to ask a question... When I start up my car it'll fire up just fine. But give it like a min. and my rpm's will drop down and about die, then they'll shoot up to the regular idle. Sometimes it'll drop nd rise and do that a few times and then stay at the base idle again. Please help!

Gstang, have you tried the procedure yet? With out any info about mods you might have it makes it tough to trouble shoot or offer suggestions. Also if your '88 isn't a California car it is speed density instead of MAF which definitely changes the picture as I know zip about speed density cars and their idle problems. If you provide more info I am sure that someone can jump in and help out.

deal of the century!
I can only guess that your dealer wanted to clear out old inventory, I was quoted 34.99! You gotta love the dealer parts guys

Key On Engine Running: RPM shoots to 2000 back off throttle stop screw, idle lowers to 900 but consistantly jumps to 1,4-1,600RPM. Timing mark keeps jumping around so setting timing is out of the question. So if I tested the TPS correctly with the results that I have, whats my next step?
Key On Engine Off: Black->Black, Red->Green on the harness side of the plug. My voltage reading was .007, Does this mean there's something wrong with the plug? The wiring harness? WTF lol where do I go from here? Thanks for any advise. |

I've been having idling problems like someone else here. it seems when my engine is "cold" it doesn't idle well, and when i press in clutch (to slow down or turn) it drops to 200-400 RPMS, and sometimes dies. i'll try this and see if this fixes it, that'd probly save me quite a bit of money.
GREAT post. |
