342 Stroked

heres what i have, 302 stroked to 342

forged internals, balanced
12:1 compression dome pistons

its just a basic 302 roller xxx block.

i know ive heard you all say like 500 is about the limit of these blocks. well what heads, cam, intake, and size of carb should i go with to get the most out of this shortblock?? if the limits 5, i dont want to push pass that but i do want near that without power adder.

because its already 342, i dont feel like selling the internals to get a 347 kit and then have machine work done.

but i bought it like that so, thats why. i dont want to mess with efi... but i do have a bottle so that would work.

You dont need to sell any internals. Just change the pistons. Crank and rods stay the same. Or not, and just spray it.

umm 500hp n/a you're talking about bigger than 185cc heads, deffinatly ported everywhere..some kinda valve job, rockers and stuff..custom cam, nice big carb and high rise intake, dont forget ignition and air/ fuel delivery all adds up...but its cheaper and easier to throw 150 shot at it..also cheaper

and 500 isnt exactly the limit...depending on the driver and how well it was built i've heard ppl pushing 600hp on motor with stock block...but i rlly wouldnt go much over..cuz rlly anything over 500hp is living on borrowed time...

331 I posted on zanes dyno

331
OOTB 195 Canfields
Small Sadi Custom Cam
650 Holley
Vic Jr

Its all dependant on the builder and the overall combination, made 444 at the crank. 347 and some small tricks it will make 500. Nothing outrageous, by any means. So many engines fall short because they get their info from internet engine builders or the magazines

no, making it a 347 will make almost no diffrence. speedstang is right, for 500 hp youll need a head that can flow in the 300 cfm range

yes a 347 will make 15-25hp/tq more depending on the combination of parts used.

I know you know your stuff, but that is over generous. just to be sure this is 342 vs. 347 right? I could see a gain like that from a 302 to 331, but just from an over bore, I'd have to be on the skeptical side.

for the price of having to buy new pistons and then have cylinders bored, i'll pass. for that kind of gain... i'll just put bigger jets in. for about 12$ total.

I was jammed up in another thread in my head, I was dealing with another 331vs347 debate while replying to this one, a 4 inch 342 and 4.030 347 will make nearly identical hp/tq across the board, it was my mistake dealing and fighting with internet engine builders elsewhere.

i think 5, it was back to the windshield, but since its gonna be more of a daily driver we trim'd it back a little, looks good now though.

i will update with full pics after its 100% on the road. just need to put brake lines on, and wire some switchs.
