I had the first gen PMS, about 9 years ago. Its a great starter, soon you'll want to upgrade, because it does have its limits. I love my AEM EMS though.

Umm, the series 1 had its limits sure, but the newer series 4 have been tested and used in 1000+hp applications. Thats more than most street enthusiast ever need or want to go. Theres really no reason to "upgrade" to AEM if your goals are 1000hp or less.

Im running a PMS S4 with InterLog.

how hard are these things to run I mean I know quite a bit about computers (I am an internet provider in mexico) and not a genius with cars but not mechanically stupid...but do i need to know air fuel ratios, and timing curves, and flux capicitor fluxes, etc.... I know this is probably a stupid question and I have asked it several times but never really get an answer can someon give me an example of what you have to do basically. I see a lot of people running laptops in there cars and making adjustments

Well, basically its like tuning a carb'd car, except far more precise and sometimes slighty more complicated, but only because theres a ton of numbers involved. With computer controlled cars, your main goal is still the same. Air, fuel and timing. There are sensors that measure all three of these, and send info in real time back to the ECU. When you have a piggy back (the PMS) for example.. You can record these events, and change them accordingly. Its very simple really when you look at the big picture. The MAF sensor reads how much air is coming into the intake, and sends that info to the computer. The computer then makes adjustments to the fuel curve by changing the duty cycle of the injectors (basic explination). This is what alters your Air/Fuel ratio. The computer also controls timing based on where your A/F is.

You can control any aspect of all three of these. You can even control voltage to certain censors and counter parts. You just need to know the basics (safe A/F, advanced timing/retard) and you can pretty much walk yourself through the rest. Its intimidating at first, but its exactly the same as a carb'd car, except with numbers and a computer.

Great starter!! Do you even know anything about the new PMS? Cmon 9 years ago is like a century as far as computer go. I have a new PMS and it is good to just over 1000hp. I looked into all the available systems and ended up with the PMS.. Best money I ever spent.. Far from a starter. You wont need anything else except dont even think about tuning with out a wideband o2, unless you are doing it on a dyno.. You are just askin for trouble especially on a boosted car..

Exactly if its just a starter system then why do lots of NMRA guys use it?
That another reason why I bought it..

Time to get flamed.

Hold on, you guys think alot of NMRA racers use it because it works so great? Try again, maybe they use it because Anderson pays contingency, and also on contract with Brian Anderson, you get a free PMS unit and support as long as you put that big ass AFM sticker on you door, whcih is required by Brian himself. And what class runs PMS units? I'll bet you wont see one D/R or REN let alone H/S and definetly not Pro running a piggyback. Lets see what the real racers are using, hmmm, maybe they have stepped up to a standalone system, rather than a piggyback. I believe Accel still runs the roost. Now as a piggyback, its a great system, who else out there competes in a piggyback setup. Well, thats right.. No one else does, because standalones are where its at. There were 3 basic piggyback controllers that ran the feild in the late 90's early 2000's. Then DFI came along and put piggybacks on the back burner. You are limited, I never said anything bad about the PMS unit, but the technology isnt there. For a budget standalone it works wonders, controlling about 70% of what an Accel DFI FAST XFI and dont even get me started on the DFI Thruster, comparable to price with the PMS, but outfunctions it in technology and options. And yes, I had my PMS a long time ago, they only thing is that it took me a year or two to realize it didnt fit my needs at the time. Not that I have anything bad to say, its just some of you want to bash on me because I had it 9 years ago. Lets see how long you plan to keep your PMS unit.

Where did anyone say "Alot" of NMRA racers? Where rules prohibit the use of a stand alone EMS, but permit the use of PBs... the majority used is the PMS. Real Street and Pure Street... some Factory Stock, Open Comp, True Street (yes i know, true street is a non-member class).. and i think some of the JDM Truck class guys use it too. Ofcourse classes like D/R, REN.. SSO, H/S arent going to use it. Hot Street is dominated by carburetors.. all the fast guys in H/S dont even use computers, so ya cant use that against the PMS. D/R guys are making 1600+hp.. which is more than the PMS can provide a window of tuning for. Same for the Renegade cars.. and so on. Its just like i said before, if 1000hp is your goal, or less.. the PMS is a cheaper way to go, and it WILL get the job done just fine. No reason to spend lots of money on high dollar EMS when your goal is 1000hp or less. Thats all im saying.
