It will not give you much if any power, but if you remove all the EGR and smog stuff along with all the AC stuff it will take over 100 lbs off the car and improve your 1/4 mile by a tenth or two.

Actually a functioning EGR system improves efficiency and mpg, while reducing pollution. The only reason to get rid of it, is if you want to reduce weight.

+1
and If you do get rid of it,you should have the EGR function turned off in the pcm. That would be the correct way to do it.

Or get a EGR eliminator that mimics the signal of the EGR and remove the EGR valve.

Thats just a band aid to trick the pcm into not to throwing a CEL.
You will still run the risk of being on the lean side.

the smog pump and the EGR are unrelated.

the EGR eliminator is used when the EGR is deleted. it plus into the EGR Valve Position (EVP) sensor's harness connector and indicates to the ECM that the EGR is closed always. this triggers a code 33 (EGR valve opening not detected). this is the only EGR code that does not cause the CEL to come on. when any EGR code is logged the ECM disables EGR strategy. EGR strategy increases timing advance in order to compensate for the cooling (retarding) effect of EGR gasses in your combustion chamber.

the only chance of detonation when disabling EGR is if you block the EGR port but leave every EGR system component attached and functioning. any other method of disabling the EGR will cause a code which will in turn cause the ECM to disable the increased timing advance that would otherwise cause detonation.

So, you can remove the smog pump without messing with the EGR?

yes. the smog pumps primary function is to add air to your catalytic convertors to facilitate the burning of the HydroCarbons that were not used during the combustion process

I need to look into that. There are a slew of hoses coming off of that system. Cannot follow them all. But it needs to go...

AFAIK the cobra intake does have provisions for EGR but you can find the eliminator kits available from FordFuelInjection.com
