347 Cooling Issue

Im running a 347stroker, with stock fan setup with stroud and an aluminum 4 row rad. Drive thru's are the issue or at least long stoplights. Does a 347 realy run that hot that a stock set up cant keep it cool? I may have introduced the problem by raising the motor about 1/2 inch at the mounts which changed the angle of the fan. I had clearance problems with the canton oil pan and Hydraulic lines on top of the rack and pinion. anythoughts are welcome.

First thing i would check is the thermostat. Could be stuck shut. Always the first to check with overheating problems.

id say upgrading your cooling system should fix your problem...i take it you got the short block....did it come with a water pump or did you use a used one.....is a electric?

someone else should chime in that has a lil more experience

thormostat checks out its brand new, high flow mechanical water pump installed myself. The motor is a long block from CHP.

Driving down the road the car runs at normal temperature but idling or slow speeds it runs hot? If that is the case, your fan is not pulling enough air.

thermosstat would be my first choice!! id replace it anyways with another one.. there cheap enough and easy to swap out anyways!

second when its running, and you pull off the radiator cap, does it bubble up like there is air in the line?? if so its prob a headgasket!! like was said earlier ive seen this problem quite a few times!

and i bet ud be good with the fan and shroud, however i prefer dual electric fans and shroud!! there nice!! and you free up room!

Since this thread has a thermostat question in it already...
Does anyone have a suggestion for a specific brand of thermostat? I have a 185 "hi flow" in my other Mustang but bought it so long ago I do not remember what brand or where I got it. Local Autozone only had "regular flow" 185 and 192/195. Another note, any opinions on 185 or 195 in a car running 10# boost?

No specific brand that i run, i just walk into the parts store and ask for a 180* t-stat. They have always worked for me.
