New Guy On Scene
New guy here that could use alittle help....
First I just bought this car for $1600 and was wondering if I got a good deal... I used to be a Sport Compact guy with an eclipse gst but as you can see I got sick of the front wheel drive and all the B.S. that went with trying to squeeze ponies out of it... I do not know what motor work was done to this ride but it sounds smooth, the gentalman I bought it from said that the motor was worked but I can't really tell that from listening to it. I just bought a set of 245/50/16 tires and a KYB shock strut & spring set 2'' in the front and 1.8'' in the rear drop. Will this be a decent setup for auto cross events??? or did I just piss money away and going to need to get a better suspension. I really would like to work the ride ability first before going to the motor... So if anyone can give me starter tips on where its best to sink the money let me know... |

I am not a 5.0 guy, but I like them. Good strong motor. What year car is it and what kind of shape is it in?

The year is a 1992 fast back, the body is clean with one dent on the driver side fender. Needs a paint job but is in straight shape for running auto cross events. Motor was replaced with a rebuilt that a Motor Head built up at our local Navy Base Auto Shop. It used to have an automatic slush box but now has a five speed. The rear is probably stock but will also have to check that. Did a standing burn out and both tires light up so that was another good sign. I will have to get under the hood and look over to see what kinda parts and odds and ends are really done.
The problems I am seeing right now is that second gear is rough to shift into and the shifter feels realy loose, not sure what that is about. The pulley tenshioner is making noise and really loose on the belt also so I am going to repalce that. |

Re: New Guy On Scene
Looks like you got a good deal on the car. As far as auto-x goes the KYB are better than stock but not good compaired to other options out there. The biggest problem with fox bodys mustangs in autox is that they PUSH! And most people put bugger tires on the back and that makes it worse, than they stiffen the suspension and it gets worse. The cheepest way to reduce understeer on these cars is to add a better sway bar to the back of the car and install a SMALLER on on the front. It will make the car "dig" into a corner like you want. Another cheep fix is caster camber plates so you can add real alinement setting to the front to help it grip. Just a few ideas. But the biggestthing you can do @ and autox is practice. You are prob the biggest problem with your car. Most of us are.
