i am buying a 1990 lx good condtion interior redone for $1,800 but it needs reverse is it worth buying and then having to do a tranny swap, if so, how much do u think it would be for a new tranny or tranny re build?

oh yeah and welcome to the site....thats exactly how I got here....I needed info on a tranny repair and google brought me here.....lot of good people on here to help that really know their shit..... I was only going to do a tranny rebuild and after being on here for about a month I was thinking to do a head cam and intake swap, then it turned into a full 347 stroker with custom cam and all supporting mods and tranny with 2800 stall...lol...good luck

1800 isnt bad if ita a manual u can fix it yourself if its an aod u can get a good used one for like 300

ok u can find one on craigslist for cheep and its not that hard to do so if the car is nice enough 1800 is worth it. where do u live?? find a tranny and subtract half of the cost of another tranny and offer him that..

alot of people are doing aod to t-5 swaps and normally sell their aod;s and most of the time they are in good shape just look around.

Are you wanting to mod the car?.. at the very least I would do a shift kit...you said 1800 bucks I am guessing its a 5.0 .. talk to Dan his screen name is silverfox at Click Click Racing he builds autos to hold 700-1000 HP and is VERY reasonable probably less or equal to what you can find a used one for....

no contact dan at the link I sent you. He is an awesome guy. he set me up with all the parts and tricks needed to build my tranny from 700-1000 HP....dont think I will ever hit that...lol..and never heard of shift kit by k&n most people use transgo. I think thats what he put in mine...he sent me all the parts and tricks If I lived in the united states I would have just shipped my tranny to him and had it done but I had all the parts brought down and have a mechanic here that is going to put them in...He is very reasonable on prices too....stay with the auto and build it !!! I had a similar problem with mine when it gets hot I lose reverse and only have 1st and 2nd gears...
