Installing valve cover breather

I think im going to order a set of trick flow valve covers and they dont come with any holes for breathers. Just wondering if i just order a push in breather and drill a hole to fit the grommet. Or is their something else I will need??

if you're gonna run breathers you NEED to disconnect the pcv hookup in the back of the intake manifold. otherwise air will enter the breather and be drawn into your intake via the PCV hose. this is equivelant to a big vacuum leak since this is air that is not being metered by your MAF meter.

2 options:
1) use the stock setup (pcv valve and hose plus the tube from TB to oil filler tube, or
2) use two breathers and no PCV

how would you go about plugging the pcv ? On my stock set up they had me pull the line off the tb and plug it and attach a filter to the end of a hose coming off the fill neck ( s/c set-up). Now I need to get a set of valve covers to clear my roller rockers.

the simple way would be to just cap off the port on the PCV valve. there are better looking ways i'm sure but that'll get the job done.

crankcase ventilation. keeps the fumes and pressure from building up in your oil pan.

yes. while one is venting the other would be allowing air in to displace the crankcase fumes. picture a straw with one end closed. not much air is going to leave the straw unless you open the other end.

plus if you increase the temperature (to operating temp) there will be a proportional increase in pressure (PV=nRT for you chemistry nerds). this increased pressure will fight (albeit unsuccessfully) against your pistons as they move down the bore unless you can vent the excess pressure. PCV actually helps the engine produce more power. creating a vacuum in the crankcase works even better. reason why drag racers use vacuum pumps and header evac systems.

what if I get a neck with a fitting for line that comes off the stock valve covers and keep the pcv valve? It would be just like the set-up I have now and it will give me the clearence needed for the rockers. Ive read you can grind the stock covers to get them to clear roller rockers but not sure.

the way you have it now (with the filter on the end of the hose coming off of the fill tube) is still letting in a small amount of unmetered air, but IMO it is a negligible amount. your idea should work fine.

That was the way Paxton said to do it in their manual. Im going to check tommorrow and see if there is any chance getting the factory covers to work that would save 100 bucks.
