Trying to figure out what type of water pump (mechanical or electric) and oil pump to use with my 408 stroker. Its going to be a carbed 450-500hp street/strip setup....with more street than strip lol

Stock replacement Melling, TRW or Sealed Power oil pump. If you can afford it get an electric water pump. They free up a few horsepower and cool better and more consistent.

I've run them on the street for years and never had a failure yet.

I can't answer that question. My last motor made just over 700 horsepower and I was running a stock replacement pump. Alot of the big engine builders use stock volume pumps. From what I've been told by engine builders is you run a big oil pan with a standard volume pump and 5-6 quarts of oil to keep the oil away from the crank. The high volume pumps draw more horsepower to operate, put stress on the distributor and requires more oil otherwise it will drain the oilpan. I've been following this advice for years and its been working for me.
