hesitation

I have an 89 lx with heads,cam,exhaust,intake manifold but i havent been able to get it running right at around 1500to2500 rpms in fifth gear only do i have a problem it hesitates and backfires when i keep it in that range but if i accelerate it clears up and runs fine. so far i did the timing,plugs,wires,cap.rotor,o2sens,tps,iac,vac leaks, and nothing helps could i need a tune? also dont have cats if that matters.

sounds like a vac leak ( i know ya said you checked that already but still) or maybe a MAF or BAP sensor.

i would have guessed vacuum first also.....and if i was the computer goin out you would think it would have trouble at WOT also.....maybe MAF like ujslost said

try unplugging the MAF and see if it changes idle or makes any noticable differance. If so then the MAF is probably ok.
