Procharger

So as many of you know, I bought a used procharger kit.

Everything looks good accept this is what the discharge piping looks like.

Yeah, that is oil and those are metal shavings. The guy I bought it from said it leaked no oil at all and had very few miles on it.

So, now I am going to take the impeller housing off to see what gives. If there is anything messed up in there, or any oil, I'm gonna shine the discharge pipe up real nice and then shove it straight up his candy ass.

Man, thats really gonna suck if the impeller shelled out.. and thats why he sold it. Look at the plus side though, if the head unit is jacked up.. you still have the brackets and such.

Prochargers dont consume oil, atleast they shouldnt. They run on their own self-contained oil supply. If its leaking oil to the point where its getting into the charge tube.. thats bad. Metal shavings? If theres any metal shavings ANYWHERE in the impeller, charge tube.. intake tract... ANYWHERE... thats BAD, end of story. Dude, read what your wrote... your saying its okay for the engine to inhale metal shavings.

The pieces of aluminum are about 0.5 mm by 0.5 mm. Easily large enough to ruin a valve seat.

Shaving off metal when new?? That is a first for me and no supercharger should put oil into the discharge tube. The prochargers only hold 6 oz of oil, any oil going into the discharge tube means it should be running low on oil really quickly.

The impeller housings are pretty easy to take off on the prochargers, so that is what I am going to do...tonight most likely. If anything is damaged someone is getting a back door delivery they weren't expecting.

They have a car show here almost every month. In the summer it draws around 400 cars and entry is free. You should come check it out sometime.

6oz of oil? Wow, ive always thought they were 8. I know thats not a big deal, but damn im slow!

Superchargers dont "shave" metal when they're new. If there shaving metal, there defective, and need to get sent back to the manufacture. Low oil could cause the shavings. Either way, if the shavings are in the charge tube... thats bad, and even if the supercharger was new when it happend.. im willing to bet that destroyed a motor, or caused some expensive damage.

Maybe that 2500 bucks wasnt a good deal after all...

Well, if theres any impeller or housing damage it is going straight back and I'll cancel the charge through my CC company. End of story. I don't put up with shitty parts or the shitty people that sell them. The thing is, the guy has like a 25 trader feedback on corral with all outstanding reviews, so I figured this was in decent shape.

As far as destroying the motor, if it was a vortech, definitely, but since its a procharger, there wasn't anything past the intercooler, it trapped all the crap. But still, who would sell something like this, I mean if I was trying to fuck someone, I'd at least take the time to clean out the discharge tube...right? But to leave it all coated in oil and metal shavings...who would accept that?

Ahh, well i didnt realize it didnt make it past the IC.

I agree man, if i was going to truly fuck someone, i would atleast cover my tracks. I would consult this guy asap, and see what he has to say. If hes shady.. well, he already comes off that way to me... i would cancel your CC and send it back to him with a COD.

Well I just got off the phone with procharger, they told me a new head unit is $3000. New bearings and reseal with a new impeller and housing costs about $1500.

The tech guy I talked to said any metal shavings means the impeller hit the housing and that basically they need to be repaired after that. He also said that it sounded like the guy never changed the oil and had 10K miles or more on it. I'm pissed.

Any chance ATI will repair it for less than 1500? If so, you can get 1000 back from the jackass, and use that money to repair the supercharger... your cost is still 2500.. but atleast it'll be in working condition.

I don't know, it's a shame because it was a hell of a deal with the 12-rib setup, AFM power pipe, polished renegade brackets, and polished head unit.

I guess I will pull the impeller housing before I do anything else. But seriously, who spends $5K on a procharger kit and then refuses to spend $10 to change the oil...did I mention the guy said it was on his wife's car?

F1R is a bit big for my 306, thanks though. I already have one cheapass kit to deal with.

Maybe I'll just change the oil and run it and see how it does....just need to find a blow through air filter...lol
