Not really.....but its not a spacer its a EGR (exhaust gas reculation). If you continue to run the stockupper intake it will still have very hot exhaust up there with no cooling. Notice the two coolant ports on the spacer?

I think the EGR is a emissions device. Others have argued that its to cool the combustion chamber whilt the car is running at speed by pumping less flamable air (exhaust) into the mix. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

The one and only purpose of an egr valve is to reduce NOx emissioms

you can get a thin plate and delete all the egr stuff.

i always thougt the coolant line going thru it would heat up the air going into the engine so i took the hoses off and capped it all

No, it was to cool it. The EGR has exhaust in it. Coolant is much cooler than exhaust.

Here is a quote from the Fiero board. Wonder if GM stuff is different.
I still agree with you.

EGR reduces combustion chamber temps by replacing a small portion of the O2 in the intake stream. The ECM adjusts the mixture and timing, but if the recirculated exhaust gases aren't there when the ECM makes these adjustments the result will be an excessively lean mixture and very high combustion chamber temps that can lead to detonation and lean misfires. Efficiency goes down, hence fuel used for the power output goes up.
