replacing fuel sending unit

How would I go about replacing the fuel sending unit? I have an 88 mustang conv. can I access the part by pulling the pump or do I have to drop the whole damn tank? any pics or tech advise is great. just please dont tell me I have to drop the tank. Its way too cold to go through all that. its a convertible so it may not be the same as a hatch.

and why the hell cant I copy and paste in the fourms P.I.N.A!

You have to drop the tank to get at the pump and the sending unit. Its not a big deal to drop the tank. Run the fuel level low. There are two straps that hold the tank on. One bolt each. Then there is the fill tube and fuel lines. The fuel pump assembly is on the passenger side of the tank. The sending unit is in the middle. From start to finish it might take you 2 hours.

yeah, run it empty before you do it. Dropping a full tank sucks, each gallon of fuel weighs about 6 lbs.

make sure u don't push the round rubber gasket into the tank that seals the fuel neck when you reinstall the tank. I hope im not the only one that has done that.. lol

+1, it's kind of akward getting it back in even when it's close to empty and has a jack under it. don't try it full
