How to Build a Ford 331 Stroker. 347 Stroker | FordMuscle.com


Most 347 kits require the piston to be so short that the piston pin intersects the oil rings. While a nickel-sized gap behind the ring on each side of the piston may not seem like a huge issue, in fact such a gap will increase the oil consumption of the motor to some level. We spoke to four reputable machine shops to get their opinions on using the 347 in a street application, and their responses were equally divided. It seems as if half of the Ford crowd is convinced the 347 is not an ideal street motor due to rapid wear on the rings (from the relatively low rod ratio) and increased oil burning.. The other half feels the piston pin issue is a non-issue, and refers to the number of satisfied 347 owners using them in daily drivers.

Personally I don't give a shit. Why anyone would build a 347 is beyond me. A 408 can be built to produce 600 hp without an aftermarket block, the rod to stroke ratio is about the same as a 347 and there are no rings intersected...and overall the motor will produce more power for less money than a 347 with aftermarket block. maybe we can just start kicking people off whenever they ask any questions about a 347.

On a side note, i dont think this is really sticky worthy anyways.

If people dont know the truth, its because they were too lazy to get the real info. That same laziness is present with people who join this board. Its really very easy to use the search button to find PAGES of information on the 347. If people are to lazy to do that, why would they read through multiple paragraphs of why strokers arent what they appear to be sometimes? People will be bored of reading, and just ask their quesiton because the answers come alot easier and faster than reading a novel of information.

Im with Ryan too.. why take away the fun of slapping the idiot sticker on peoples foreheads?
