Anybody Ever Heard Of A Cam Thrust Plate Failing?

Please refer to "I think it might be hurt." I think my cam might have walked out of the block enough to have the cam lobes contact the other lifters causing a horrible noise, loss of power, and a different idle. Is this possible?

I think your more likely to have broken a rocker arm or bent a pushrod than that happening. Have you taken the valve covers off and checked those yet?

Sure did. I performed a compression check as well. The engine cranks over smoothly, but when it fires up it sounds horrible, like a 1000 marbles dancing under the intake. With the X cam, it used to have a lumpy idle. Now it is as smooth as a tired 302 out of a pick up. I am baffled.

I have seen thrust plates wear from improper timing gear installation - cam bolt backing out which causes the cam to walk.

I think it could be low oil pressure not allowing the lifters to pump up, causing the noise and the mellow idle.

I need to manually check the oil pressure and determine if the original noise that I heard was a valve sticking due to no oil. I am more than angry at myself dor not having a working oil pressure gauge....
