rebuild kit for a stock 302
Were is a place to get a rebuild kit to replace stock parts for cheap. Reliable parts would be nice.
And how much for a possible 306. Links and pricing would be apprecieted.

I would shop around summit, jegs etc. Just get a name brand engine kit and you will be good to go.

The whole why question is why would you mention a 347 when I said 306 or 302.

Im on summit and it has rebuild kits, but they go by options for pistons and what not which of these kits would suite me best? The future for the motor could be a small amount of boost. But not much like I said...

Call summit and order it. If you tell them what the cc's are on your heads they can let you know what you compression ratio will be with certain pistons. I got the speed pro pistons. Buy a good set of rod bolts also.

keep in mind rod bolts are a good idea but the rods will have to be reconditioned by a machine shop if the bolts are changed

Ehh thats why I was looking for oem stockish parts to be replaced with so hopefully I could get rods in the kit.
Now this kit looks nice, but has nothing for the valvetrain which is something I would need. so if I get this kit I'd have to do the top end I guess.

I tried to get the specs down for stock sizes on everything. Would this work with all other stock parts or do I need rods or anything else? I was thinking a new top end kit. start the motor over completely. Compression says 10:1 Seems a little high. I guess id have to keep it all motor.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that kit will work unless you have a bran new block. You have to get the block machined so the rings will seat. So you can take your block to a machine shop and get it bored over .030 and get this kit Federal Mogul Premium Engine Rebuild Kits: FEM-MHP173-300 - summitracing.com and that will give you a 306. A new top end is always a good idea, if your going for a budget build you can go to a junk yard tear apart an Explorer and get the GT40/GT40P heads and intake. Or get the TFS top end, this is the cheapest I've found Pro Power : The engine parts professionals : 1986-93 302-5.0L, engine kit, 360 HP/350 ft.-lbs. torque, black [TFSK514-360350B] - $2,099.95 so far. As far as the CR goes, that will depend on the heads and you should be fine at 10:1 CR in low boost applications or even No2

Well thanks, cause thats some helpful info.
So how much to get it the block machined and bored over .030? And with the 306 can I still use the normal trick flow street top end kit, and would I see a little more power over keeping the stock displacment? Also what should I do for rods; can the stock ones be retained?

machine shop rates are all different and the top end kit will work fine you should see about 10-15 HP more with the 306 nothing you are going to really notice and I would just get new rods if you are already in there they are not that much.

Man I'd like to keep a lower compression ratio just in case down the road.
I guess I could do a .030 over with tf top end kit. Nitrous would be the only power adder. I couldn't see boost doing to much at 10:1.
