top starter bolt question.....

I am trying to remove the top bolt on the starter. The last person that put the starter stripped the top bolt. I tried using the extractor sockets and they just keep shaving the bolt head. Other than removing the motor.....what are my options..thanks.

We had a stripped starter bolt as well. First thing I would do is soak that thing with PB blaster(we only had wd40 at the time). We torched ours, then vice gripped the lip under the head. The vice grip actually pushed into the heated bolt and made grip for us to turn it with.

Good luck, that one was a SOB

You could drill the head off (starting with a small drill bit and getting larger each time), another method is a quick solid blow with a cold chisel and a hammer (chilling the bolt helps), or a combination of both things. Don't know if you have room in there to do this though. Once you get the starter out, a stud extractor can be used to get rest out.

another possibility is to use a mapp gas torch and burn the head off to remove the starter and then use a bolt extractor once you have more room....or you can just screw it forward out the other side.
