Heater takes forever to produce hot air

Anyone know how or why this is happening. I just put a new thermostate in the thing the other day. Still takes forever for hot air to come out. It does get hot but takes about a 1/2 hour of driving. Then I'll finally get some hot air going.

get your cooling system flushed, could be a clog not letting fluid flow through the heater core. I just replaced my therm too and it helped a little but still takes some time. also what temp did you go with?

its not the heater core he said it takes 1/2 an hour for his engine to get to normal heat range. im betteing the new one is either opening to soon or its bad too.

I went with a brand new 192 factory Thermo. It's been on the car as of the last week in Dec 2007. I put the spring side into the intake. Hope I got that right.

Other thing is when I first start up the car. I can hear the water flowing thru the heater core. Isn't that wierd.

the thermosdat should be closed when u first start the engine so u should hear the pump pushing water to the core yet. lemme check if u installed the correct way.

another thing i should mention. Sometimes and it didn't do this before I put the new thermo in. My temp gauge will sky rocket to around 220 with very cold air blowing then I'll turn it off then the temp will drop very fast to normal range I'll turn the heater back on and I'll have warm air. Wish I could show someone. Everyone thinks I'm crazy but it really does happen. Not all the time but it has happened a few times.

take the thermo out and see if its stuck open and do the boil test to verify it functions in its correct range and not opening to soon.

You prolly have alot of air trapped in the engine, just keep topping off the rad.
