AOD Tranny adjustment

I am not able to start the car in Park. It will start in Neutral.

Is the only adjustment to move the paperclip opening back and forth and then secure the bolt/nut to this opening. To get it to start in park I have to manually place the transmission in park, by manually I mean under the car and move the lever on the side of the tranny to the park position, and then I have to apply a little pressure to the lever, towards the reverse position to get it to start. There seems to be a bit of play in the park position. Tranny has been recently rebuilt, but the car did not have this problem prior to the rebuild. I am thinking it is just an adjustment issue.

Thanks Guys

remove the shift cable from the trans linkage and count down p,r,n,then od. put the shifter in the od position and position the cable on the linkage and tighten down. Make sure the shifter doesn't move in the car. that should do it. I'd get this adjusted properly before you drive it or trans damage could occur if the shifter is misadjusted. alos don't forget to reconnect the tv linkage and adjust it to spec.

Thanks Twist 2 Go

Thanks,

I got it last night. I also adjusted the TV cable, Now I can get HBO and Cinemax, and the playboy channel

No seriously, I had someone floor the car, and I relased the latch and with the block barely inserted into the throttle body, only way you can do it because of the latch sticking up, I pulled on the cable as far as it would go, and made a mark on the plastic rod, I think that was the Max. Then I made a mark 5/16 inch away from that mark, closer to the end of the rod, I think that is the min.

I then made a mark 1/2 way between the 2 marks, and called it Macaroni, no I called it the mid mark. For my car 5.0 TBI I set the mark a hair over Mid, closer to max. Now I am going to take it for a test ride. I was told it should downshift from 3-2 at 50 mph. Not sure exactly what that means, or how to test that unless I am going up a hill or mountain????????

Is that about it?

Thanks Robert aka OTreborO
