Fuel pressure regulator was just changed about a day and a half ago.
O2 Sensors are unkown as to there condition, same with the fuel filter. I'm assuming the fuel filter is ok? Since the pressure @ the schrader valve peaked at 40psi when it was checked the other day. And I whole heartedly agree. Something is sending too much fuel thru the engine, just, what is doing such things? >.<

no wht i jus thought about, are ur rocker arms adjusted correctly, if not they could be opening to early and not allowing for proper combustion... jus a thought

....Rockers... Adjusted properly?? Come again? I dunno what your talking about. No idea at all. When I put the engine back together, I just re-installed the rocker arms. WTF is this about adjusting them properly? Oh and I just redid my whole lower intake gasketing and cleaned on the upper intake plenum yesterday. But yeah.. What is this "adjusting rockers" stuff. I dont understand.

Could these "mal adjusted rockers" be the cause of potential oil burning?? I'm so lost on this O.o. AND this is new information to me. I have read nothing about adjusting rockers. All I did was re-install them until it lookes like the pushrods and rockers looked ok, and then tightened the bolts till they were snug.

ok the rocker arms are connected to the valves in the heads, if they are not tight enough or have too much slack then the cylinder will not burn the entire air fuel ratio, could be the cause of alot of fuel not being burned... and im sure it would cause a misfire, have u done a compression check

i dont think tht will work unless u are using stock rocker arms... rocker arms keep the valves in time with the cam, they have to open at the exact right time and close to seal the combustion chamber at the exact right time to allow proper and complete combustion.... the oil burning has to be from somethingelse unless the heads u put on raised the compression ratio highier and collasped the rings... that would happen a lot if u have an old engine where the piston ring are almost gone bad and oil has begun seeping threw the oil rings... u really need to do a compression test.. also u might wanna check ur pcv valve, it might not be letting blowby out of the crankcase... |

10 degrees +, since it already is running poorly in the first place.

I'll run a compresison test prolly sometime tomorrow.... But the valvetrain is currently stock equipment. And the heads I replaced the old ones with are stock heads except for some small number like 5 thousandths off of them or something like that. The heads also have new springs and valves in them as of approx 300 miles ago. Stock equipment there would be the pushrods and the lifters. I was gonna install rollers / new pushrods in about another week.

Well, i'm kind of undecided on if its full oil or not yet.... The only thing I am sure of is that its running super rich. Infact, as I played with it today, if it does not start the first time around, dont expect it to start. It's already flooded. I have to unplug the fuel pump, turn it over till it burns out the fuel in the engine, plug the pump back in, and then hope that it catches fully on the next attempt. And, if the valve guides are the little metal plates that look like U's, they _should_ be installed properly.... I cleaned and lubricated every part of the lifters and rockers before I re-installed them.

The only thing I know for sure is that it ran. It ran fine. Very fine. And out of the blue, its running like crap. Fixed ALOT of problems with it in the past handfull of days, but were still having troubles.

And burning oil doesnt really make sense. As most of everything checked out at a clean bill of health at breakdown / re-assembly......

The saga continues. It's not over yet.
Still acting very crappy, or interesting, wichever you want to call it. Won't start when warm/hot, randomly tries to die, seems to flood the engine at a seconds notice if it doesn't start properly, lossy performance, backfires with flame now. TIMING HAS BEEN CHECKED MANY MANY TIMES and again today when the coil and the distributor cap were replaced. Went to the auto parts store, bought a new cap and ignition coil. Had the ignition module tested. It passed the 10 some times they ran the test on it. Installed same new parts. Dramatic performance increase, and behavior (when it's being good), except, it's still doing all the aforementioned problems. As a last ditch effort, I called my uncle (whom I haven't been able to get ahold of thru this entire adventure so far). He finally was home. I proceeded to explain the whole situation and run down of events, and he was like, replace the computer. He mentioned just about everything, before I could tell him, about it's performance. Right down to not being able to pull any codes from the computer. So, for now, it's drive it to work, and hunt for a computer. Unless this information sounds inaccurate to any of you. Thanks again. |

At this point, I have driven it for a good long time now, between last night and this morning. The oil burning is mostly gone now. It's 90% black smoke.
