1990 ford mustang

So I can pick up a 90 gt for cheap, but the guy says that there is no transmission fluid because it all leaked out. And he said that its not driveable, of course. But my question is that is it repairable or do I need another trans??? Also its an auto. ANd how much am I looking at spending for a swap? Thanks guys

you can find a new trans fairly cheap.. but if it just leaked out my questions would be... how? where? did you drive it after and if so for how long?

Well the guy said that it needs a new gasket but I have not driven it becuase he said that it is not driveable as is. He said that it was leaking and ran out of fluid and it stopped going into gear. My I thought that if you cant shift into gear than the tranny is fubar. How much would it be to get one installed?

Well all he said is that it needed a gasket that costs like 15-25 bucks. And he said that it slips as is because there is no fluid. BUt if I refilled with fluid and replaced the gasket do you think that would fix the problem?

the most common reason a tranny slips is because its low on fluid, he said it had a leak, so fill it, drive it, then check to see where its leaking.

is it a auto or 5 speed there is no gasket in a 5 speed that costs 15-25 dollars there are no gaskets on a 5 speed there are only 2 seals that are only 2-3 dollars each but if its a 5 speed it would go into gear with no fluid in it .. auto is a differnt story....

Well you can find and AOD transmission for 300.00 or Higher. I wouldn't go no higer then 500.00 on and AOD. T5 you'll be paying a crap load more cause you need the pedal assembly, the clutch plate the bell housing, the shifter and the T5. you sink probably 1,500.00 alone if your lucky on a Manuel. AOD's drop fix slap in a shift kit. slap it back in put a better stall converter in it I'd say up to 1,000.00 or cheaper. Look on craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums Its the best place to find used autoparts for Stangs. I find stuff all the time in my area.

a shift kit would just make it shift faster and harder......he was just naming some performance mods to do to it while you had it out of the car
