GT-40P Heads

Anybody installed these on their car? I'm interested in picking up a set, since they flow better than GT-40 heads. I already have the FRPP shorty headers which clear the plug.

I'd like to know about the experience, seat of pant performance, and or dyno differences.

Thanks!

Possibly but the sad thing is, people are doing that with E7 heads......

Look at some of the NMRA factory stock boys. They put that 12.86 to shame.

true...i guess there are so many factors that contribute to one's e.t. other than the power it is making (i.e. suspension, driver, etc.)

^^ Exactally. People really think you need 400rwhp to run 11's. I have seen people run 12's with 230rwhp! Its all about the driver, how the suspension is setup and gears play a big role in it also.

Very True...

Traction is King...But power helps too...

This is the responce I got from Mark at T A Racing about GT-40P heads: "...the GT-40P heads were designed for the Explorer and it is very difficult to find headers that will fit.

The basic GT-40P heads are worth approx 30 HP over stock heads and after porting can add up to 55-60 extra HP.

Early 289 heads can produce over 100 HP over stock."

This in a ported condition. I contacted him to consider the porting of my GT-40P heads. His response was to use the 289 heads, instead. If he is wrong, then I would need to ask someone else.

After reading the article about the stock 302 with AFR 165CC heads and 1.7 Rockers adding over 100HP I almost fell out of my seat! Methinks I'm going to go that route - with the motor already blown, I think freeing up the air coming into and out of the cylinder will make my car a screamer! (that and a new intake)

I'll be going out to the track soon and running my car as it is now - with the nice cold air and decent outside temperature here in Ontario I'm hoping to see some decent numbers.

Once I change the heads (next year hopefully depending on $$$) I'll be able to compare it to the Baseline I run this fall.

My research is showing great results with porting 289/302 heads. Of course, I'll continue to ask those people who have experience with this type of work.

I believe that test with the AFR's also included a throttle body, MAF and full exhaust... not sure though. Someone might want to check up on that.

Nope - a 625 CFM carb on the one I read.

Still - stock roller cam, rods, crank, pistons and all that jazz with nothing but heads, exhaust and bumped timing running 400+HP is very impressive.

A stroker 347 with the correct parts will yield 435hp. Doing a port job on the heads and a proper valve job will yield much, more hp. Throw in a decent set of headers and side pipes, good tranny, and gears to match the type of driving you are going to do and it's dyno time. Could this reach 500hp?? Maybe, maybe not. But it would be fun as hell to try. Take it to a strip, or show, and watch the nay-sayers have to change their minds about the lowly 302 block.

You could hit 500 flywheel hp with a 347... but it would have to be a very aggressive setup.

So be it. I don't need that much hp anyway in a FFR kit. 435hp was my original goal.

I think I'd dump the money into a 351 crate motor, or a stroker, based off of a 351 block. The extra cubes would help with not yielding such an aggressively built motor with bad manners.

Most of the people who are building FFR's agree on the 351.
