T5 Rear Seal Does Hole Go Up Or Down

Bought a used T5 and went to install the rear seal on the tail shaft and notice there is a small hole manufactured in the rubber. Does it go up for venting or down for draining? The original was tore off so I don't have a reference to look at.

Thanks for any help.
