Overheating

I got a quick question:

I have a 1988 GT and when im on the street...stop light to stop light (NYC) The temp is stable....about 170-180 degrees half way on the gauge but when im driving on the highway and push it the temp gauge goes up quickly about 3/4's of the way up so when i lower my rpm's and slow down it goes back to normal again....anyone got any ideas? thanks!

+1 And what your describing should be the opposite. Most people overheat when they are NOT moving.... wierd

To Hot To Handle!!!

First thing I would do is change the temp sensor, its cheap enough and easy to change. This way you know your gauge should be reading correctly.
