Suggest Parts For A 347

I just bought a lx with a 347 short block. The car is pretty much set up for drag racing.I was thinking of a afr 180 or 210 heads.I don't know what cam to run with this heads ?The car is going to be driven 25% on the street and 75% race.Going to change over to long tube headers and 2.5 inch or 3 inch exhaust. The car has a k member,a arms, coil over shocks, sub frame connectors, torque box,adj upper and lower control arms,3.73 gears, and tremec tranny.compression ratio is about 10.5:1and I plan on squeezing the motor with 175 shot of gas.I just need suggestions on a cam.

Thanks danny

You could run the 205's on there but I wouldnt. Stick with the 185's. As for a cam, I would get a custom grind or atleast call up comp cams and tell them what your setup it and have them pick a cam for you.

AFR 205s or Trick Flow R series or some CNC ported heads and a custom solid roller

You should be able to make 500 horsepower fairly easy.

Depends on how streetable you want it and where you want your power band to be....

As long as the total combination (engine, converter, gearing, etc) is matched a high powerband will not make the car less streetable. I ran 225cc intake ports and a .705 lift solid roller on my last 347 and it was real mild mannered. The biggest mistake people make is not addressing the entire combination.

+1 With matching parts. But for a street car you obviously dont want your power band to start at 3500rpm's. I guess it really depends on the cam used, etc.

BTW, Darrell your car is VERY nice looking!

I have a 347 with 205 heads and 596 intake lift, 195cc intake. Just bought it actually. Just my .02, the car is quite streetable and has great manners. But she'll get up and scream if ya give her the gas.

btw my car is setup like yours 347lx. 3:73 gears, tremec tranny, long tube headers, blah, blah. Car's gonna be a screamer when you get it together. Good luck!

My last 347 started making power right around 3700 or so. As soon as you touched the throttle it was pulling. Proper gearing and torque converter will allow the engine to get into the power curve quickly. If it was going to be a street only car I'd recommend a small hydraulic roller and some small runner heads but he said 75% race.

347

will the car be injected or a carb. cuz if its injected you can not run a cam with such a big lift that Darrell suggested. If its injected you have to keep the lift around .540-.570 or so

Why not? I've run .700+ lift cams with the factory A9L computer with absolutely no problems.
