Every car is different. You shouldnt have to run 91 with 12* of timing. I had my 93 up to 13 with no pinging what so ever on 87 but I ran 91 after that just to be safe. If you dont mind running 91 octane, fill up on 91. Than time it. Keep increasing by 1* and test drive. Than when you start to hear pinging back it off a degree or two if you want to be really safe.

from what I have been told is that if you mess with the timing at all you should run premium...

^^ No, thats definetly not true. As long as you are not pinging you will have no problems. Like I said, run whatever octane you feel comfortable buying and bump it until it pings... than back it off. Theres really no reason to run premium.

I just run it safe...
I know on the mod motors that if you bump timing you have to go with premium...But the push-rod motors are a different animal... |

+1 I know what your saying BUT its very unnecessary to run premium in a stock/bolt on car. Its just a huge waste of money. And if you do run premium gas and run only 12-13* of timing its really not that great for your motor. Its not going to harm it but you would be alot better off running 91.
