they both are emission related but deleting one doesnt affect the other, although if you delete the egr the mil light will come on and the engine will run hotter, the recirculated exhaust helps lower combustion temperature.

I've also had experience with running cats and no smog pump, the cats did fail. I've also seen it a few times on other peoples cars too. I did some research on it and found that the fresh air pumped into the exhaust on these cars mixed with the hot exhaust gasses allows for further burning of the unburnt fuel. With this pump not present, the cats will eventually clog up from having to work overtime from having more fuel mixture present and not enough air in them, and will fail. It may take a few months, it may take much longer, but in the end it will happen.
