In Tank Fuel Pump Upgrade

Hey guys i was looking different In tank fuel pump's.
For example BBK's 255LPH (Fits all 86-98 GT MUSTANG) But when i was looking at them it says....
"We also suggest the use of an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pressure gauge with these high performance fuel pumps."

Now my question is what is this "adjustable fuel pressure regulator",what does it do? And is it really needed or is it just kinda BS for them to get you to buy more stuff from them? I had planned on getting a gauge just fyi. But this regulator is it worth it, or is it a need? Also if i need it can i get it later or just get it right away or not at all?

Also any brands recommended? cheap/good or whatnot?

Thanks for the help guys - The Novice.

it does just what it says it makes it so when u have a good fuel pump u can raise or lower your fuel pressure.

if u are getting a 255 lph fuelpump then u should get the adjustible fuel pressure regulator u can find them on ebay from 40-120 i got a holly for 65 and it came with a gauge.. what are u doing to your car that u want to upgrade your fuelpump??

unless your going any larger then 24lb injectors it is not nessassary to get a 255 lph fuel pump and that money can be put tward other things...what do u have done to ur car now and what do u want to do in the future??

They look cooler and its nice to say you have one but in most situations and unless proven otherwise by monitoring your wide open throttle A/F ratio, 39# which the stock FPR should be maintaining, really is the ideal pressure. An adjustable one is not a scam and serves a purpose if you need it.

I havent done a thing to it yet, i am saving up now and looking at what i would want and need to get the most out of the car when its all said and done. But what i am looking at doing is getting the following.
1-TrickFlow twisted wedge Engine kit ( about 360 HP )
2-TrickFlow High Port Pistons
3-Rocker Rollers
4-Better Radiator
5-High Flow Water Pump
6-Equal Length Shorty Headers
7-Intank Fuel Pump Upgrade
8-Rear Upper and Lower Control Arms
9-Flowmaster Exhaust
.....Maybe's.....
10-Cold Air Intake ( but dont know with the Mass Air thing if i have to convert its an 87 GT so i dont think they had it yet?
11- Throttle Body- Dont know what size and with no Mass Air sen. Is it worth it?
12-MSD ignition setup
13-3.73 rear end

Well that was the plan so far. Like i said havent done anything yet just saving up now and trying to get a feel of what i would need. If ya have any advice or anything would love to hear it. You guys know more than me and i am willing to listen to anything.
Thanks for the help guys! - The Novice.

dont worry about converting it to mass air until u get the truckflow top end...
u should start with your suspension and frame stiffening...

here is a list of the things u should start with.

subframe connectors- 150-300 (including installiation) i reccomend through floor

gears-250 for installiation u can find good deals on geats on craigslist and ebay (dont buy used gears)

exhaust-cant quote that one....

electric fan- go get a turas fan from the junkayrd and wire it to a relay.

3g altornator upgrade

control arms

Ok Thanks e3sean.
I have a few quick questions though
1st- For the Subframe connectors, should could i get the welding ones? jw b/c i own a welder and if they work just as well if not better that would save me some money.
2nd- For the Rear end 3.73 what all do i need? the 3.73 gear, prob lube, but anything else?
3rd- And finally the 3g Alternator upgrade what AMP should i get 130/170/200? And would any of those require anything else to be upgraded or changed? Will it be sucking to much power or will it all be ok?

Thanks for your help, everyone for that matter, so thanks all. -The Novice.

1-the through floor are done by cutting the floorboard between the subframe and a peice of steel tubing (i belive its 2"x3" but dont hold me to it) is layed between the frame and welded in then the floorboard is welded back into place.. i have never done it but thats how its done i am sure u can find a write up on it that is more detaild but the hassel isnt worth it there is a guy here that will do it for 200 i am sure u could find something similar there for near the same cost unless u are confidant in your welding/fabricating ability.

2-and a shim kit but gears are something that u want done right.. if have not done it i wouldnt attempt it blind unless u like spending money twice.. and i am sure everyone here will agree. i am all about doing everything i can myself but that is not one of them.

3-130 is fine. no it wont suck any power if anything it will help give u a better spark.
