What's needed for 4cyl to 5.0?

I have found a nice notchback that was a 4 cyl. It has no motor or transmission, and I was thinking it would be easier to go carbed on a 5.0. Would it be? The local junk yard has a running 5.0 for $400...is this a good deal?

That is a decent deal if it is a low mile motor with no leaks and comes with all the sensors and the computer wiring harness and computer.

The swap is very straight forward and easy. The K member in the 4cyl will work with stock 5.0 motor mounts. A new double hump cross member and some other stuff depending on the trans you choose. If the car had a manual trans originally that simplifies using a T-5. Heavier radiator, the 4cyl front springs will work but it will handle better with the 5.0 front springs, headers / exhaust system, etc. but all of this stuff is bolt in, no real fab work required. Carb is quicker and easier to install than EFI but even EFI isn't all that tuff if you can find a doner car it's that much easier. If you choose EFI make sure you hunt up the mass air stuff and not speed density. As far as the $400 price tag, depends on the motor and what kind of warranty they will give you.

Don't forget to upgrade to an 8.8 rear from the 7.5 in the 4 cylinder. you don't have to, but the 7.5 probably will not last too long under 300 ftlbs of torque.
