Nitrous Questions

So I did some serious work on my nitrous kit last nite and got it where i want it. I am currently using the nitrous works throttle body plate with a 052 nitrous jet and 028 fuel. I'm uncertain on the timing to run, Last nite I ran 20 degrees with the chip out on the advice of a friend. I have another friend that says leave the chip in and set base timing to 6-8. I guess the shot size is around a 110? The car ran pretty good on nitrous, and feels pretty damn slow on motor. I'm assuming the chip in method would be better. Also the car ran very well and I don't know alot about nitrous but I'm not sure it felt quite like 100 horsepower. I have one stage colder plugs and a 255lph pump. What do you guys think?

A fairly general rule of thumb when using Nitrous is to pull 1-2 degree for every 50hp. If your running 100hp, i would consider 4 degrees to be safe. Also, running high octane gas can compensate for pulling timing. Thats something to keep in mind.

I would invest in a device that pulls timing according to Nitrous activation... like an MSD 6 BTM. It will retard timing under Nitrous, but will keep timing when your not using the spray.

You have to pull that with the ignition off before you adjust timing, otherwise the computer will compensate for the timing adjustment and it won't change.

Good thing to do is make a nitrous run, then pull a plug and see what it looks like. Make sure you know what it looked like before, and clean it up if it needs it so you can get a better reading after you do the run.

if you are only running a 100 shot you only need to make sure you have at least 92 octane and you can pull the spout connector and set you initial timing to 10 degrees to be safe ( i've run a 125 shot plent of times with 12 degrees and never had a problem )

you get an A + for running a bigger pump and colder plugs

btw make sure your bottle is hot , if it's cold you won't have the required pressure and you won't get the full 100 shot, i carry a little torch with me to heat the bottle till it's very warm everyone will probably bash me for that but i've been doing it for years and as long as you move it around the bottle won't be weakened at all , iv'e run a bottle heater in the past and it works ok but it won't bring the pressure up quick enough if you want to make some back to back passes with ... say.. a half hour between passes

92/92 octane, 10-12*btdc. you'll be fine. I've ran 16* with .049 jets, and 100 octane.

Adjust the timing to 10-12 degrees with the spout connector out, THEN PUT THE IT BACK IN. EFI with locked out timing is pointless, might as well slap a carb on there if you are going to lock out the timing. And 20 degrees locked out is not enough, you want more like 30 degrees locked out timing if you are going to go that route.

Cool thanks. I alway's take the spout out before I set timing. I just heard to different things on how to run it, one being locked the other not. So I think I'll try 8 degres with the spout and go from there. Do you think my jet combo is close? I sprayed a full bottle with the locked timing and my plugs look great. I was so sad a minute ago when I went to lunch cause it started surging and i knew the fun was over. Wish i had an endless bottle
