worked on my car some today.....
replaced radiater hoses, battery cables, changed oil, put in new spark plugs and wires.....and it crunk up on the first try....i'm so happy. its sat up for close to 8/9 months probly. a few questions though....
1. when its running ( i only ran it for about 3-4 minutes cause it was dark and cold outside) it blows alot of white smoke. and makes the entire yard smell like gas. 2. it has a real rough idle.. 3. somewhere in the engine compartmant someting sounds like a shop vac is on, either sucking or blowing air really fast and loud. what yall think? |

Sounds like a good ol' vacuum leak to me. Check ALL your vacuum hoses and fittings. It could be a PITA.

Yeah, because what its doing is allowing the car to run rich. Not good for the new plugs either. The white smoke is fuel smoke.

Smoke might just be condensation in the exhaust and oil, it hasto get to operating temp for a while to evaprerate that out. The blow or suck noise could be a vacuum hose but 5.0's uasually don't just drop hoses so I'm betting on a leak from the smog pump (if you still have one).

no smog pump on car, there were a couple of hoses that used to go somewhere but were plugged?? i'll take a few pics, one of them was dryrotted, so im sure a vaccum hose has just fallen off then maybe. i dunno....

see if u could get the car to run up to operating temp to burn off if any water vapor inside thats what usually cause that especially when its cold out also thats a vaccum leak it will cause it to loose air so the comp will let up on the fuel which makes it run lean like that
