Programmable Engine Management ?s

Newbie here, but I did do a search and couldn't find anything.

Really need to get the timining, fuel map, etc. straight on this car. Hasn't been done yet since the rebuild. So...I've been tossing around the idea of going to a dyno and having a custom chip burned, but what if I add nitrous later on down the road? Need to have another chip burned. That's bullsh** if you ask me. I'd rather have a programmable system. That way if I change something, just plug in the ol' laptop and reprogram it myself.

Anyone here have experience with a programmable ECU? What brand is best? Which is worst? Is this a bad idea? lol

btw, if it helps to answer my questions... engine is a 347, custom cam motions cam, 36lb injectors, 75mm throttle body, 80mm mass air, trick upper/lower, canfield alum heads w/ 195cc runner, 2.05/1.60 valves. blah blah blah lol

Anyhow, if you have any ideas for me, please let me know. Thanks!
