One Wheel Peel?

I have 4.10 gears in the rear and since i got my 89 lx running good i have noticed that in first and second it will fry both tires but when i hit 3rd it goes into a one wheel peel and if i keep in the gas it gets squirrely and the other tire will take over. damnedest thing i ever saw. any ideas. perhaps a trac loc rebuild???? how long would that take to do.

If you want to drive the car to Bloomington, I can rebuild it for $200, parts included.

I have a spare t lock that needs a rebuild ( with a $50.00 kit you could do it yourself)

just pay the shipping and it's yours for free.

this one is a little on the expensive side because it's carbon but I am sure you can fine them cheaper for the stock rebuild kits..
TRACTION-LOK REBUILD KIT, 8.8" W/ CARBON DISCS MISCFORD

Why are you trying to sell him stuff he doesn't need? He only needs the rebuild kit, not a new carrier...

I figured he can rebuild this one AND be able to drive his car at the same time.. it's worth it for $20.00 + he gets some skill out of it.
maybe he can sent it to you to get rebuilt and still have his car on the road while you work on it.

It is A LOT more work to replace the carrier than it is to rebuild the trac-lok in the car.

It only takes me about 2 hours to rebuild one in the car. It is at least a whole day ordeal to replace the carrier. You have to check and adjust bearing preload and backlash, recheck the gear mesh. It's no fun.

my shop did it for me in about 2 hours then again they had tools to work with.

they rebuilt a tlock (that I handed them) and put a set of 4:10's in there.
whatever.. don't matter much to me either way.. at least he can resell the t lock if he wants to.. it's only $20.00 and he already payed me.

They did a complete gear swap in 2 hours? How many people were working on it?

Anyway, my point was, he doesn't need the carrier, it will take more time to put another carrier in the car than it will to just rebuild the one in the car...but whatever...

2 people.. it was a very good shop specifically for mustangs
MySpace.com - DPR - 101 - Male - US - www.myspace.com/dprshop

I only made $1.90 which I probably wasted in gas by the time I payed for shipping.
maybe he can upgrade the one I sent him to 31 spline and sell it for $250.00 or so..

I wasn't trying to jack you of a sale man. merely trying to get some crap out of my garage and help him out a bit.
I did get a cup of coffee on the way home though which ran me $2.02 so I think a cup of coffee for an 8.8 t lock is a half way decent deal.

if he just rebuilds the carrier outside the car, then pulls the cover off the diff, saves the shims and remembers where they went, all hes gotta do is bolt the gears onto the carrier and set it back into the rear end with the same shims and cal it a day.....

he shouldnt have to touch the pinion or the preoload there and with the same shims he will have the same preload on the ring....

You're assuming there is no production variances in the carrier. That's a bad assumption. If there was no variance in production there would be no need for shims at all. Besides, anytime you take the carrier out, even if it is the same carrier you have to check backlash, preload, runout, and gear mesh. It is by far easier to rebuild the carrier while it is in the rear end.

Also, swapping the ring gear from one carrier to another may change runout and backlash, and also takes some time since the ring gear is a friction fit, you sometimes need a puller to get the old one off, then put it in the oven for an hour to get it on to the new one...

Anyway, I wasn't looking to make any money, just trying to be helpful. It costs about $100 in parts, and getting covered in gear oil isn't my idea of fun.
