Throttle Body Spacer Question

Hello, I have an 89 lx 5.0 and have been looking at TB spacers and was wondering if anyone thinks that 1. they are worth around 80-90 dollars (Airaid Jet) and 2. if since I have deleted the function of the EGR valve(EGR spacer still in place)can I remove the stock EGR spacer and swap it out for one of these TB spacers. Will this work or will it cause any problems Thanks.

1. not worth the $$
2. the best way to delete the EGR is at the lower intake, otherwise heat will build up in your upper...particularly without the EGR spacer. reason is, the coolant lines going into your EGR spacer actually do cool it down. the coolant is hot, but not nearly as hot as the EGR exhaust gasses.

bottom line: delete the EGR at the lower intake manifold, then disconnect the coolant lines. forget about the aftermarket TB spacer, its a waste; if anything it inhibits airflow.

TB Spacer

You can remove that spacer and you must replace it with a TB spacer because someone correct me if I am wrong you need a spacer because it has the holes in it to mount your throttle cable bracket.

The real question is how well will the car run with out the spacer? Will it efffect the idle or anything else? A bracket can be modded for the throttel cable!

TB spacer

I think it should run fine but not sure. Just buy the spacer its not expensive. It is possible that it could affect how the cable is mounted but I dont know...

Leave the EGR spacer unless you have a race intake such as the Victor 5.0 that doesn't have any EGR provision at all. Eliminating the EGR will be a minimal gain if any and will destroy your fuel economy.

TB spacer

I would not waste my money on those so called vortec ones on my case I run a 80mm BBK TB so the hole on that type of spacer is actually smaller than 80mm and would impede the flow on my car. I just have a regular polished spacer that matches the opening in my Spyder Intake

Don't believe everything you see. If a manufacture claims their part gives you X number of horsepower, you can guarantee it is a lie.

90 LX with EGR delete, shorty headers,
Itook the EGR spacer off my car and installed new 75mm TB directly to the intake manifold, Car runs fine, had to adjust throttel but so far no problems, only possible down fall might be a loss of 5-10 ft lbs of tourqe considering i took a good 4-5 inches off the intake by removing that spacer, planing on purchasing a spacer "only like $10"........

I went to the nearest hard-ware store and got two small strips of steal, measured the required length cut them and drilled holes. I got two longer bolts for the two holes closest to the fire wall and mounted the bracket off the side of the TB. Basically going from the top hole of the TB down to the top hole of the bracket, and the same with the bottom. Painted the two strips black to match the bracket and to hid it, don’t look to bad for a total of $3.00. Works great though, so far no problems.

The have a device called a tornado, and I believe it can you a bit better performance and a bit better gas mileage, but most mustang folks are not really concerned about getting better gas mileage, and the very very little increase in H.P. is not worth the cost. Better ways to spend money.

Hell if everyone on her would send me $1.00 I could take care of my transmission repair, get caught up on child support, and maybe even afford to get my boys something for Christmas :-)

Pay pal accepted
