Well i'm not a fan of copying a book to paste the info online, i will say that i have read his 4.6L on the dyno book and it totally kicks ass. Instead of posting the pages, i suggest you buy the book. Its a great book for hanging out with friends and BS'ing about cars.

Will some of these numbers work for a Carb'd 5.0. If I put Synthetic oil and a advanced my timing 15* I would get 10-15 HP?

I guess I don't understand the question here. However, I will say that you will be in trouble with a "hi end race cam" with that close to stock engine....

The posted tests are only good for the specific engine combinations used. For example, they use an essentially stock engine and test a 60mm and a 65mm TB which shows the larger TB has not real gains - but only because the stock parts didn't need it. To generalize any of these tests would be a BIG mistake.

How do you know this? Remember that DJs measure actual TQ not hp, unless you have the calibrated load cell and the load control. Even then somebody is still wrong. The DJ load cell "calibration" method is crude at best. What if the MD reads the "real" power output and the DJs read high? There are also MANY variables that will effect the power measurements. IMO the only way to get "accurate" readings is on an engine dyno using a NIST calibrated load cell. These dynos out there in the performance world are "crude" tools compared to some of the stuff out there. I do not consider the output of the dyno to be dead on the money, i just want it repeatable so that i can see my tuning effects on the output. I could care less if it outputs 50hp or 5000hp, as long as its repeatable. This is a case were precision is far more important than accuracy.

My real job is in an industry where calibration are a big part of everything. We have a calibration department and all of our equipment need to be regularly calibrated to the NIST standard. If a simple tool like a pipette (small volume liquid measuring tool) is out of cal it could easily cost $100K+ in scrap material.

I'm really surprised that 1.7 rockers made the HP worse with a little more mods but made it better in stock form. Would a hotter cam be in order to compensate for the larger rockers?

Also, I read somewhere that with the air silencer delete improved horsepower (thats obviously not a myth) but it also increased the peak power at 4800rpm rather than at 4500. This data seems to contradict that, but I have mine removed and I can say without a doubt that it definitely helped to free up some HP at the higher RPMs. Mine used to hit a wall at about 4500~ and now it pulls strong up to about 5000~. I plan on getting a gt40 upper and lower intake and a Steeda No.18 cam to free up the last 1000rpm. I'm pretty hesitant to go for the 1.7 rockers at this point though.
