04 cobra in sn95
Let me start off by saying I'm not a mechanic by any means but I know a little bit about the basics.
I just graduated college and I'm still driving my old high school 97 mustang v6 my parents bought me. I've been wanting something dangerous/fun and was thinking about buying me a new gt when I get a job. Although I was just wondering if I could do an easy swap with a 04 cobra motor. Do these motors come blown? How hard is this? My cousin graduated from wyotech and he's a stang freak so he can put it in. How much would this cost cause I know I have to swap rear ends and my tranny too? I have an automatic and wanting a stick. Would this be cheaper than buying a 99-04 and swapping a cobra motor on one of those? What all would I have to replace? |

Short answer? Its going to cost more to do this swap than it would to just buy a GT. Its a pain staking swap, that takes alot of time, and money to perform, even for an experienced mechanic. To do it right, you'd basically need an 03/04 donor car.. and then swap everything from the cobra over to the 97. If i were in your shoes, i'd just get a GT.. or maybe consider just buying an 03/04 cobra. Im talking from experience. Trust me, its alot more work and money than its really worth.

yea thats what I thought. I may just buy the new GT but I'd love to low 13's car but I know ya cant have much for 10k dollars and I don't want to void a nice warranty.
Are there any other options under 10k that would get me a blown car? include buying another car and I'm not wanting a Fox. |

Well I have never had a new car and always driving older cars so now that I can afford it I'm wanting something that feels newer. I want something I can drive around, pick up chicks and stuff like that.
They are badass but just not what I'm looking for right now. |

but yeah, of course you can get it in the low 13's for under 10k. suspension gears slicks centrifugal supercharger or nitrous it'll be close to 10k, so you might be better off buying good used parts

Kind of scared of nitrous for some reason. What kind of supercharger would you suggest? KB? Vortech? and dont you have to beef up the pistons and stuff?

The rods are the weak link in those motors. You say you can afford a newer fast car, but the truth is with 10K that is just barely going to buy you a nice used new edge. Maybe you can find a Mach1 for a decent price. Those run high 12s with very little work.

Yea I can afford a new GT but I'm going to be living where it snows like hell so I'm not wanting to keep my 94 explorer lol. If i go with the 10k one I can sell my mustang get it a little cheaper and might be able to buy a truck or something. I meant 10k without the price of the car btw. my bad.

So you are saying you have 10K plus enough to buy a car? So like what 15K-20K? Then definitely go with the Mach 1. You can always add a blower later if 12s aren't enough for you.
