? about internals

i've read several posts here and elsewhere that claim the pistons in my car won't work with an aftermarket cam. any truth to this? i'm just wondering cause the guy i bought it from knew zero about the car and was no help as far as what was done to the engine. i found a list of mods a while back that the owner before had put in. Lunati Cam was one of them. didn't say anything about which cam it was though. but with a lunati cam, and edlebrock heads, would it be safe to assume that the internals aren't stock?

you have flat top pistons which i guess run into problems when running different cam, heads

someone will come in here and tell you more about that im sure

I used an F-303 in an '86 GT motor with the stock '86 heads and a Trick Flow spring up-grade. That motor is still running around in a Ranger with no problems. I used head gaskets that were .042 thick and had the clearance needed. If you don't go bigger than that you should be fine.

i'm not changing anything. just wondering if it's more than likely that the internals were upgraded when the heads and cam were put in.

Depends on which cam and which heads. Could still have a stock bottom end. The F-303 cam is .512 / .512 lift with 1.6 rockers.

all i know is lunati cam, edelbrock heads. don't know which ones though. i've been trying to get ahold of the guy i bought it from, to try and track down the previous owner, but haven't been able to reach him.

and ".512 / .512 lift with 1.6 rockers" might as well be japanese. i'm not what you would call an aficionado.
