Unless the engine is heavily modified you will be sorry. The EFI make alot more low end power for street cars. A carb on a stock or mild 5 liter engine will loose alot of low end.

Just installed a 93 5.0 which was efi into my 83 convertible, with a carb and there are a couple of little things you have to do.
Pressure regulator for carb if using in tank fuel pump, distributor will need to be changed, I used a mallory unit, possibly coil may need to be changed, PCV is different than the efi type as efi's is built into lower manifold.. Had to make the throttle cable bracket, may even need to use a different cable (I had the old V6 unit to play with). If automatic trans there where some linkage issues mentioned in the edelbrock instructions for kick down etc., mine is 5 speed so no problems. Do you need to meet emission regulations?, you may need the egr plate etc. Heater hoses are plumbed a bit different as efi uses 2 steel tubes which sit on the manifold, but interfered with my edelbrock carb linkage. All I can think of, hopefully not too discouraging. |

I bought all new intake, carb and edelbrock performer intake maybe around $700.00, check out www.mustangsunlimited.com/ for some on line pricing.

i am also considering this option when i rebuild. i have a 95 GT HO_5.0 which i am going to stroke out to 347, and i dont want the efi, it is not going to be a street car, just a drag car, im hoping to make somewhere upwards of 470-500 hp. will switching to carb be efficient for my application?

Just read this post so I thought I would chime in:
I am currently in the process of conversion here is my hit list and I am doing my best to keep it cheap, but do it right: HLY-0-1850S ST Carb 600 Vac Sec - Silver $211.03 OFY-5691 MANIFOLD $211.10 SUM-239000 1/2 INCH AIR CLEANER SPACER $2.60 SUM-G1423 CARB STUD KIT 3/8IN $5.39 SUM-G2420 GSKT INTAKE SBF $5.39 SUM-G3001 14" CHROME AIR CLEANER W/LOGO $14.44 Ebay - FORD 302 DISTRIBUTOR HEI w/ coil on top $57.50 ----- Will try to fabercate all my little odds and ends like throttle cable, fuel connection etc... The only issue I believe will be the cams not sure if the rebuild that was done replaced the stock cam so there may be an issue with the HEI Dis. but will wait and see... Will see about posting pic's kinda new to this but it is fun none the less. My big reason for doing this is I am not a fan of computers or electrical parts, they always seem to break around me...

Oh ya...
Almost forgot you need to get fuel to the motor... Oh well this little fix is going to reach $700 quick... Now I gotta get a fuel pump and pressure reg... Welp may as well get a new tank pickup... There goes another $100... Better yet, fuel cell... woowoo... Which fuel pump and reg. is better bang for the buck ??? As this is going I may as well drop the $7000 and go get a worked motor from http://proformanceunlimited.com/ford.html Maybe next year...
