Procharger ???'s
I'm looking to purchase a supercharger and I'm leaning heavily towards a Procharger. I have a freshly built 306 with about 550 miles on it, when I built the engine I built specificly it with low compression (8.89:1) for a supercharger. In your experiences what would you go with? I know I'll have to upgrade the fuel pump to a 255. I'm looking for about 450-475 rwhp if possible? or tell me if that is possible. I have a few questions though:
1. Do I have to upgrade the injectors? I have 24# now 2. I have read that you have to upgrade the ignition system, maybe a MSD system with boost retard? 3. If I decide to go with a Procharger which one do you reccomend? 4. MAF? Would I have to upgrade throttle body and egr? I have 73 or 76MM C&L right now with a 70mm throttle body and egr spacer. If you guys need to know more specifications of the engine they are in my garage. This will be a large investment so please lead me in the right direction, thanks for all your help!

One more question, do I have to run an intercooler? 2 or 3 core. What are the benifits? Thank again for your help!

hell yeah ur gona need bigger injectors, and with them comes the different maf, and the intercooler depends on how much boost ur gona run

The base P1SC with the 3 core intercooler is good place to start.

Can you tell me what the breaking point would be to require an inter cooler? What size injecters would I need?

Well, there isnt really a breaking point per say. The intercooler is a good idea, even if you were trying for just 350hp. 36lb/hr injectors are the minimum size i would use for your goals.

Since I'm using a stock block I've read that around 500 hp was the max, I don't know of that is rwhp or not. The more usable hp the better. What size do you reccomend?

Anderson Ford Motorsport has a nice blow-thru MAF. Its somewhere in the 80mm range i believe. That would be an excellent choice.

That 500hp mark is crank hp, and depends heavily on a good tune. There are people out there making much more than that on a stock block and they have lived. ryans 89 is making something like 620hp at the crank I think he said, on a stock block 306. I'm probably going to jet mine for about 550hp at the crank, and I have a stock block 306 also.. not saying its a safe/smart idea, but its possible. If you don't want to tempt fate, stay below 500 crank hp, but make sure you have it tuned.

ok first i am not trying to be an ass but have you driven a car with 500 hp?
Is this your dd? How much boost do you want? My 93 I have is 497 hp and 454 tq to the wheels on a stock block. I have a p1sc but i would say upgrade to the d1 for more boost if you want to go all out. Yes get a 3 core intercooler and I would also say to go with a blow thru maf, I went with 50# injectors on mine. I do have to say I love my procharger and would recomend them to anyone |

You don't need a blow through MAF. I have a stock ford electronics C&L on mine and it works great, no idle surge, no electronic tuning. Plenty of fuel, hasn't pegged.
You don't need anything bigger than a P1 procharger, that is more than enough blower to split the block. Also, yes you can use 24 lb injectors, you will need an FMU, yeah, lots of dumb people will say FMUs suck and not to use them, but that is because they are sheep and have never actually owned a car with an FMU or they just never bothered to tune it with different disks and a bleeder. The truth is, when properly tuned, a car with an FMU is better than a large injector car because you have reasonable pulsewidth during normal driving and still get enough fuel for WOT. I have 30 lb injectors and had plenty of fuel for 500+ hp.

Ryan is right, you dont "need" a blow-thru MAF. But, i would use one. Just an opinion really, i should have clarified that.
Ive used FMUs before. I like them only because there a cheap way to fix an expensive fuel problem. When you cant afford an expensive piggy back, or stand alone EMS, an FMU suddenly looks like the light at the end of the tunnel. Its not the best, or most ideal way to control fuel, but it does work. Its an option if your on a budget.

302 with edelbrock performer heads and a GT40 intake, small cam.
P1SC with 12 rib renegade setup with vortech mini BOV and vortech FMU. C&L MAF (which both Danny and Rick at AFM were surprised at how well it worked, as good or better than a calibrated blow through MAF). 3 core intercooler and powerpipe. 30 lb injectors and a 255 lph external and in tank pump. Makes ~14 PSI and 500 hp at the wheels on a very conservative tune (only 14-16 degrees total timing) on 93 octane.
