New Engine?

OK so for the past few days i have been tossing around the ideal of getting the trickflow top end kit for my 95 5.0. the top end kit cost almost 2500. My buddy just opened my eyes to a new route. Since my motor has around 150K on it, would it be better to go to autozone and get a 95 cobra motor for 1500? The motor comes with the roller rockers and the gt40 heads ect. All I got to do then is get a cobra intake or still go with a trick flow one. this will get me a fresh motor and the upgrades i want for less money. So what i wanna know is what would you do?? and what cam comes on the 95 cobras. is it an e303 or should i swap the cam before i put in the new motor. any input is welcome!!

Well a stock 95 cobra doesn't come with an e cam or any alphabet cam... just a cobra intake, and gt40 heads I think.

yea you can get redun motor there for a good price! my buddy just did his but instead of getting the cobra one he got the gt 5.0 and is kicking himself in the ass because he could have gotten the cobra motor and then bolted on all his stuff. they only give you a long block, but hey i was fixing to drop 2500 on h/c/i so i think the new engine is a better choice.

ok. so would it be a good ideal to drop a e303 cam or somthing else in there befor ei install the motor??

Well i think you should just do the h/c/i kit.

even though getting the new engine would be cheaper and i could put a cam with it and a good intake manifold with all the supporting mods.

So your willing to pay $1500 for a set of gt40 iron heads and a cobra cam that will put down way less than the TFS kit?

Not to good of a deal if ya ask me.

Run a compression and balance test to see whats up. If all checks out then go ahead with the HCI.

What about this, it comes with the TW head and TFS cam, and its a new motor all i would have to do is bolt up the acc, and an intake manifold and call it a day. let me know what yall think

Its got hypers.. I personally don't like using them, but thats all personal opinion.

hypers arent any good, I fingure it would be a fresh motor. I am sure i could have them put in different pistons.. I would have to call and ask. they say they'll built it to what you want, so i would go with a stage 2 tfs cam and let them know what my goals are... I think it would be killer but still need input.

dude please dont buy a motor from auto zone. There is only so many things you can go cheap on and a motor is not one of them. If your are going to do it, do it right. With the miles on your car i would either do a rebuild or buy a new motor but not from auto zone but that's just me

Theirs nothing wrong with a ford type h/c/i but it will never be as good as a tfs top end. But ported cobra intakes, gt40p heads, an alphabet cam with some gear can go 12's.

Nothing wrong with Auto Zone engines and 1500 for a long block is a decent deal.
