Cam for a mostly stock 5.0 ?

Heard a old ford coupe with a 302 in it with a mild cam sounded really good. i have no motor work and was lookin to get a upper and lower intake in the future, but is there a good performing cam that has a bit of a lope and make some more power? everyone says stock cam is good but just lookin for a little more.

Companies like flowtech inductions, comp, etc have sheets you fill out with the specifications of your motor and you tell them your goals, wants, and needs and they spec you out a custom cam....from what i have heard a cam in a stock 5.0 adds little performance(i may be wrong), unlike the LSx motors!

A custom grind cam is going to be the best suited cam for a given application, but it will cost you more. If you are going to do an engine right, get the heads, intake, ect.. before you do a cam. Then do a custom grind, so you only have to do it once. When they build you a cam, they ask you a lot of questions about the car and the about the engine its going in, weight of the car, trans, gearing, ect.. and build the cam to suit. If you get a custom grind now and then change things around later, your cam won't be set up perfectly anymore.

A cam will make a big difference with matching valve springs.

I would just get a letter cam or a trick flow stage 1 for a fairly stock motor. Combined with an aftermarket in take you will see a improvement in power. I have a friend that has a f cam in his and it runs really good and sounds tough .

If you don't have a big budget, go get yourself an f303 cam which is about 189 bucks. Then get the 93 cobra upper and lower intakes for now. You will see nice gains in that combo... then down the road get some heads.

Don't bother getting a cam until you get everything else for the engine... heads...intake etc.... then you can pick a good cam to work with everything or get custom cam when your done doing all day..

A good cam and intake combo won't give you the gobs of power that some might think, but it will give you some. more importantly it will move your powerband up a bit in the RPMs.

so if I don't get into the heads is it worth it to go with a cobra upper and lower and a cam or maybe a trick flow upper and lower and cam ?

I would just get the cam once you have everything else... so that you choose which is the best cam for your application when its done..

I just don't think i'm goin to ever get into the heads on it is my problem cause first i only have about 800 saved up right now and thats not enough for an h/c/i kit and i want to lower it a little and get other stuff so i just was thinkin if up and lower intake and cam would work good with out heads.
