low rpm miss

so i have about 330 miles on my 88gt rebuild

if i lug the motor along it usually misses a few times then it seems like it hits the powerband and takes off. it only does this at low rpms i havnt gone past half throttle yet so i dont know how it is on top end.

i also set the cam 4deg advanced and have the timing at 13-14 deg and it pops and backfires occasionally should i have my timing at 10deg or what?

i have new plugs in it with msd wires, no air pump or smog(if that makes any diff) the cap and rotor are pretty new, stock coil

i know i need new o2 sensors could this be the cause?

also its just drinkin gas. i got about 100 miles on half a tank without ever going past 3k rpms.

I had a similar problem with me 331 powered LX, just got it fixed. I did new wires, cap/rotor, plugs, coil. Turned out to be the distributor. Lots of people rebuild engines, almost no one rebuilds distributors. Got the old one out and it was just a rattle trap about to come apart. $59 later and a reman distributor from Advanced and I now have my timing 11* advanced (the way the distributor was it threw off the timing, took alot of fiddling to get it right) and it runs like it's old self.

yeah i didnt put new caps on the injectors just new o-rings.

and i wanted to rebuild the distributor cause i thought it seemed a little loose. i think ill do that now and get a msd coil.

now that i think about it that seems perfect cause my car hasnt seemed consistent in the way its driven since the rebuild.

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be my EGR valve. It was stuck open.
