IMO your first mistake was "DSS" anything. Hope you have better luck than the many engines I know of that came from them.

DSS sells quality parts, I've visited there production facility a couple times. There are many people in the racing world that use there machining services too.

There factory blocks are not going to hold any more power than any other factory block, but they might produce a bit more power since they do a better job squaring the bores than the typical machine shop.

There's another one that I was looking at, it's the Pro Street 347 from coast high. It says it's rared up to 600 horse. Whats the difference in flat top, dish, and dome top pistons.

We have all our machine work done locally now along with assembly that we don't have time to do here.

No negative bashing but I will say that our machine shop will warranty a bad wrist pin installation.

they overate those blocks dont believe everything you read for one ive learned that over the past couple of years. It is still a stock block it just has a forged crank in it which is a waste of money in a factory 5.0 block.

Dish are also know as low compression pistons '' boosted motor''

flat top are just regular pistons i.e. they have a flat top and are used to acheive a moderate compression

dome pistons are just like they say they are domed to achieve a high compression ratio

Now of course pistons are not the only thing that affect c/r there are many factors, head gasket thickness, how far the piston is in the cylinder or if its zero decked,comb. chamber ect.....///

Hm not too far. If you were a tad bit closer I would highly recommend Proline here in Ga. If the drive doesn't scare ya it would be well worth it.

I honestly think you would be better off in the long run finding someone close to you with a good reputation of engine building and have them build what you want. There should be plenty of reputable machine shops local to you so if you have any issues you don't have to deal with it by phone. Do you really wanna ship or drive your engine 3-5 states away if there are any problems with it?
