What to do?

I still have the dual snorkel air cleaner on my 83. I feel a little hesitation when I step on it, like it sucks a little air. Should I replace the air cleaner with a sleeker looking round chrome one or is this not my problem

You should just take off the "snorkels", I don't think the heat in the engine bay will make a big difference. Just my 2cents

id think the snorkels would seriously restrict the air going into your engine. id just run an open filter and if you wanted, seal it from the engine carpartment to the hood, if you have a cowl hood, so it only sucks in cold air

Several things can cause the hesitation. Since it's a new carb it may need some tweaking. The accelerator pump may need adjusted (different cam) may need larger shooters just depends. Hard to tell you online without being able to see first hand. Is this a double pumper or vac secondary (4150 or 4160)? Also the timing may need reset. The dual snorkel air cleaner is not the problem. It will flow alot more air than you are using.
