Auto Zone/ Adv Auto Parts REMAN Engines

Does anyone know anything about the remanufactured engines available thru autozone and advanced autoparts. I am looking into getting one as mine in my 91 mustang lx 5.0 needs to be rebuilt and i dont have the time or money to do a complete overhaul. I am looking for basically a stock but strong daily driver with nothing more than my cobra upper and lower intake on it. I see several diff brands and prices but theres no descriptions so i dont know what to think.

the upper level engines carry a good warranty, but I would really look into a Jasper motor for the best over-all warranty/dependability in a stock application.

im looking at either the proformance engine or the surefire engine from autozone, both come with 3 year warranty. One has a knock sensor and one doesnt, also one says with roller lifters and the other just says roller cam. I am new to this but I basically just want a stock engine. Both are about 1500 before core charge.

autozone, advance auto, engines are what they are, engines... i worked for advance auto for a while, for an escort or a cavalier i would say do it, but a mustang, get a good one. a friend of mine with an iroc camaro got one from there just to find out that the oil pickup tube wasnt torqued, guess what, lost oil pressure and fried the bearings.... their just plain rebuilds, i would avoid

^^ I agree. If you want a stock replacement, go to FRPP.

I currently work at advance auto parts and I can tell you that unless you want to go stock you're not gonna get much from them. I know that you can actually talk to a rep on the phone and tell them basically what you want done to it but as far as performance, they don't have much. i think you can get a short block for about 2-3k and you put the oil pan, valve covers, and intake and such on it. It's a great deal if you're looking to go stock and have a warranty but not much for performance.

After all, you ARE purchasing a STOCK engine remanned to to specs. It's not supposed to be a "Higher than stock Performance Engine". It will repond to all of the standard bolt ons with the main difference being it's a new engine, not a used up, low oil pressure, no compression almost boat anchor slug. If you take your existing engine and properly rebuild it completely, I don't think the average back yard guy can do it for what AZ or any of the others want. Add up all of the parts etc. (gaskets, bearings, pistons, reman crank, valve job, and machine shop work to freshen the block) and you'll shit yourself. You also need a number of specialty tools and the knowledge to use them and what kind of warranty are you going to give yourself. I had $500 in machine shop fees on the last stock block that I had punched, squared, piston fitted and line honed. Bottom line is it's your call but AZ motors are professionally built and have a warranty.

Exploder motor with the mac gt40 p headers is a good idea, but def coinsider putting a cam in with the money you are saving.

(and as for the cam, i currently have a e303 so im not worried about that)

Check through 50resto.com there a great company who I have ordered thousands of dollars worth of parts. They have many different longblocks in stock, but they have a .30 thousands over 306 short block assembly for only $699.99 I plan on dropping one in my fox with a trick flow track heat top end.I almost bought a trans from autozone until I relized it was way cheaper to have a good bench job done at the trans shop.
