4.10's for fox

I have had 4.10s in my 2007 mustang gt. I never liked them, mainly because it was hard to drive without everything shaking and jerking and shit like that. I also missed my first gear. Got 3.73's and i LOVE THEM!

Now, in my case, in the fox body (88 gt with around 300rwhp with HCI) and an MGW short throw shifter (thanks HMUSN) with my son and i driving the car, he needs it daily for college, How bad would my gas mileage get? what kind of first gear do i have? I need this much

Vroooooooooooooooooooooooooooom
In my 2007 mustang gt i had
Vroooooooom.

I know the trannys are different this is why i am asking. I am not looking for a serious fifth gear pulling with the car. I dont fear the gear, i fear not having first gear and horrible gas mileage. 4.10's will also help me make my decision for the HCI.

Gas mileage wont suffer that bad. The T5 has a really short first gear in general, running a shorter ring and pinion just adds to the shortness of gear thats already present. You wont have much of a first gear with the 4.10s.

I think i will just get the 3.73's then.. Will it be sufficient?

HMUSN i never thought id let someone spend my money like that, and it was such a quick decision change.. i was so close to clicking buy it now on the hurst. 5 minutes after you said MGW, i was dead set LOL! so glad i did.. it feels so.. springy. But I feel like it knows where i want it to go. Sick shifter.

3.73s will be fine. Still isnt much of a first gear, but slighty better than the 4.10 ring and pinion.

Maybe you should look into getting 390's they will shorten up your gears a little more than 373's but not as much as 410's. I currently have my rear apart and was debating putting in 390's.

In all reality... my friends fox gt has stock gears driving normal he shifts at like 2500 or the car falls on its face. I have 3:55's and I shift normal driving at 1500 and the car drives perfect. I'm turning lower rpm , but you just need to drive a geared car the rihgt way and you can take advantage of having em and not kill gas mileage. I made close to 20mpg last week.

I think he meant a higher 5th gear , so that you have lower rpms in 5th gear. A "non" overdrive gear would be a lower gear and thus run higher rpms.

BS About the Hurst arguements I have a Hurst in mine and its fucking sweet. I dont like the pro 5.0 and stuff cause if your tall like me its a reach to the shifter. And I hate ones that feel like they are one giant spring that is coiled tight as a frogs asshole. So the Hurst is where its at for me
