Expert help U joints =\

hey guys i need someone to tell me how to align u joints with the slip yoke. when my mechanic changed my ujoints (had vibrations above 60), i think he pulled the slip yoke out when he dropped the shaft (which is a big no no unless you know which teeth line up -_-) ANYWAYS...

is there any way i can get this realigned? and just as a personal opinion, he should fix this for free. but that wont be able to be done till another few days, so i was seeing if there is anything i could do.

this MIGHT not be the problem either, need some more insight from the people who know what they are talking about please.

the vibrations occur at anything above 40, and at 60, the vibrations are hard enough to make you hover over your seat.

That must be way the hell out of line if its that bad. Are you saying he didnt put the yoke in the tail shaft right well that just slides in so that cant really be it.

Bent driveshaft

My U-joints were bad. I had the violent vibrations. We replaced both U-joints and vibrations went away.

Did he replace yours?

just a question how much did you pay for the new u joints to be installed usually it only a few $ more for a new FRPP drive shaft shipped from summit also is sounds like he did not bolt the drive shaft to the rear in the original holes there are eight holes he might have used the wrong set of holes also if he did not tighten the bolts the drive shaft will loosen up and vibrate like crazy

Since your yoke is now in a different orientation to the shaft, you may need to have the shaft rebalanced. That is about all you can do. you might want to make sure he tightened all the driveshaft bolts completely.

Really? Are the yoke and drive shaft balanced as a set or individually. I would think if they both are balanced, both should remain balanced when attached together. Over time, do they form or degrade into a balance that only works as a "pair".

Maybe I missed this or I am confused but would it matter from a balancing standpoint, the exact tooth alignment on how the yoke was placed into the transmission? If so, that would make buying a new or used yoke a real PITA as you would have no reference.

Well it isn't usually a problem, but if you are noticing a vibration difference, then it can be that it was put back in 180 degrees different than it was. The same holds true for where the driveshaft bolts up to the pinion. Sometimes in one orientation it will vibrate, but if you rotate 90 degrees and bolt it back up it will be smooth. Drive line vibrations are no fun and it is almost impossible to get rid of all of them in a car that is 20 years old.
