Looking to get a chip...Any Ideas?

I have a 90 5.0, with a few mods: Trick Flow R upper and lower, GT-40P heads, Trick Flow Stage 1 cam, 80MM MAF, 24lbs Injectors, Roller Rockers, Full exhaust system, and either Mallory or MSD ignition system (coming soon). With all that my ECU has a hard time keeping up. What are some opinions on what to go with: SCT Chip, Superchips, JET chip, etc?

he can't buy a tuner because his car is not obd2.

talk to trick tuners .. he can hook you up with a SCT chip.
He is a great tuner.

No chips are needed.

Yeah, I agree with jbig, with those limited mods, a chip isn't going to do much, unless there is something wrong with the car that needs to be corrected, like the fuel tables are way off due to a poorly reading MAF or something like that.

I am still running the stock A9L electronics with no problems.

Well i'm having problems with the idle. when first started its higher then normal, obviously, but even after its warmed up it will continue to idle high. Oh, it also has 75MM TB. Could this be a possible problem if the time is one tooth off on the distributor? It also takes longer than normal to start, it used to start right away.

You don't need a chip, just need to take some time and zero in on whats going on. EGR, O2's and what not. JMO

Chips are a gimmick. I've yet to see anybody dyno an aftermarket chip and make any horsepower. ADS used to show a gain of 8 horsepower but they had an "octane bar" to put in the distributor that effectively advaced the timing to about 15 degrees base. When tested by an independent party pulling the chip out didn't change the horsepower at all. All the power was gained from timing advance from the octane bar which does nothing more than what you can do yourself by advancing the timing. The only beneficial chip is one that can be programmed (like SCT) that is done on a dyno by someone that knows what they are doing (Kurgan, Post). You will gain power doing it the right way. I see alot of ebay auctions advertising mail order tunes and email tunes. Stay far away from that crap.

A couple of people, Kurgan included, will send a tune by mail, but you have to datalog exactly what he wants to know with a wideband before he'll do it.

Check your timing with a timing light. If you are a gear off on the dizzy, it will run like shit all the time. If you want to check, bump the motor over to top dead center and then pull the distributor cap. the rotor should be pointing at exactly 12 o'clock. If it is a tooth off it will be pointing at like 1 or 11.

As for idle, follow the idle reset in the stickies above.

Yeah, datalogging and getting a tune is a bit different then just telling someone what has been done to your car and getting a tune mailed to you.
