Differences between explorer and stang 5.0?
Ok, so I am probably going to get a used but good engine from the salvage yard to drop in the stang for now to get it going sooner. It will save me some time and money for a while since the block I have is basicly just the block, crank and rods. I woulnd have to go get all the other misc. parts and also have it machined and new pistons etc. This will get me buy for a year or two.
It's going into a 95 v6 car. As I see it I have 2 or 3 options. Get a 5.0 from and 87-95 tang. Or get one from an explorer. I'm not sure about whether the price of the explorer will be more, but probably a little. a stang engine is about $500. Explorer maybe 600-800. I figure with the explorer i would get the gt-40 or gt-40p heads depending on year and the intake. Since I am going carbed I will not need the intake and I could either use the gt40/p heads or swap on the edelbrock performer heads I have if I notch the pistons. Then sell the parts I don't use(gt40 heads, intake) and make much of my money back. Question is this, is there a defference in the short block between the explorer and mustang engines. I know about the hyper. pistons. No big deal there. How about compression ratio? Are the water hoses angled the same as the mustangs for hook up to the radiator? Anything else? I am only turning the alt and water pump with the belt so accessory location is no big deal. I get that worked out. By the way, I already have a carbed intake, carb, msd dist. etc for the swap. Any other thoughts?

if you do go for a stang engine get a 87-92 so you get forged pistons
